Collaboration network

The biobank’s network of collaboration is a national strength

Auria Biobank cooperates closely with other Finnish and European biobanks through the Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI) Network.

Locally, Auria Biobank works closely with the University of Turku, Turku University Hospital (Tyks), Satasairaala central hospital (Pori) and the central hospital of Vaasa.

Auria Biobank is also networked with other Finnish biobanks.

Together they make up the BBMRI.fi network, whose purpose is to promote and implement collaboration between Finnish biobanks and research projects that collect clinical samples and to link such collaboration with the European biobank network.

BBMRI also serves as a forum for collaboration and discussion between biobank operators, financers, authorities and citizens.

Internationally, Auria Biobank is part of the European biobank network BBMRI-ERIC. Through the European network, Finland engages in collaboration with the biobanks of other countries and reinforces its status as a notable medical research nation.

Finnish Biobank Cooperative – FINBB was established in 2017 as part of the implementation of Finnish National Health Sector Growth Strategy to build an internationally high-standard biobank network in Finland. The Strategy is a joint program implemented by three ministries, and it aims for expertise-driven improvement of citizens’ health and well-being, for example, by using the possibilities created by the advancement of science and technology.

FINBB is a biobank cooperative owned by Finnish universities and university hospitals. The members of FINBB are Finnish hospital biobanks and the biobank of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

Since January 2020 FINBB has been the national coordinator of the European biobanking research infrastructure BBMRI-ERIC (Biobanking and BioMolecular Resources Research Infrastructure — European Research Infrastructure Consortium Infrastructure).
